About HiReplicas
HiReplicas is an independent watch blog written for UK readers interested in the designs, history and details behind some of the world’s most familiar watches. We cover both original timepieces and their replica counterparts, from everyday sports watches to complicated mechanical pieces that rarely appear outside specialist collections.
The website began as a place for Robert Wilson to share his interest in watches. Based in Edinburgh, Robert follows classic references, modern releases and the changing replica watch market. What started as a personal interest has developed into a broader collection of articles covering several major watch brands.
We believe a watch is more interesting when you understand the story behind it. The shape of a case, the layout of a dial or a small change to a familiar collection can tell you a great deal about how a particular design has evolved.
What We Write About
Our articles cover Rolex, Omega, Breitling, TAG Heuer, Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet and Hublot. Each manufacturer has its own history and approach to watchmaking, which gives us plenty to explore beyond the latest product announcements.
We follow everything from vintage chronographs and traditional dress watches to modern diving watches, unusual collaborations and new mechanical developments.
Replica watches form an important part of our coverage. Rather than treating every replica as an accurate copy of the original, we examine the design characteristics that distinguish individual references and discuss the differences readers should be aware of.
Our aim is to make these subjects accessible to watch enthusiasts without assuming everyone has an extensive collection or detailed knowledge of mechanical movements.
Original Watches and Replica Designs
An original watch provides the starting point for understanding the designs discussed throughout HiReplicas. Its history, proportions, materials and movement help explain why a particular reference has attracted attention.
Replica versions can differ considerably from one another. A watch that resembles an original model may use different materials, construction methods or mechanical components. We therefore distinguish documented manufacturer specifications from information about replica watches wherever possible.
We also believe that readers should understand what they are looking at. Our editorial coverage does not present replica products as genuine watches or imply that they share the technical standards of their original counterparts.
How We Approach Our Articles
Some of our articles examine recent releases, while others revisit watches that have been around for decades. We are particularly interested in the details that tend to disappear from short product announcements, including changes in case design, historical references and the relationship between form and function.
Our coverage draws on manufacturer information, historical records and established watch publications. Where an article is based on research rather than a hands-on examination, we aim to make that distinction clear.
We also revisit articles when important information changes or a factual correction is required.
Independent Watch Coverage for UK Readers
HiReplicas is an independent editorial website. It is not an official publication of any watch manufacturer featured in our articles, and references to individual brands do not imply endorsement or affiliation.
Our focus is straightforward: to publish readable, well-researched articles about watches and the details that make their designs distinctive.
If you have a question about our coverage, want to suggest a watch worth discussing or have spotted an error in an article, you can reach us through our Contact page.
